Soy has always been around, but it is only during the past couple decades that we have begun to fully take advantage of its many uses, and have become aware of its beneficial effects on our health. Yes, soy, the same thing your soy sauce, soy milk, and tofu is made from.

Other good examples of the versatility of this bean, range from drinks to meat substitutes, dietary supplements, medicine, and even candles. It has been proven that soy is also good for preventing heart troubles, as it is free of cholesterol, and rich in fiber.

Soy does contain fat, but Omega 3 fatty acids, also called EPA are actually good for you, preventing your blood from clotting, and lowering cholesterol and triglycerides.

Soy is also a great source of protein. If you are a vegetarian, or your diet includes little meat, soy protein can be a good alternative, and may even be essential to maintaining good health.

People who are lactose intolerant can also benefit from soy products, as there exist a wide assortment of dairy substitutes made of soy.

People who are diabetic can also take advantage of the fact that soy has a very low glyceride content.

Soy's high fiber content is also beneficial in preventing gastro-intestinal disorders, and colorectal cancer..

Soy protein can also reduce the risk of breast, or prostate cancer, osteoporosis, and ease the symptoms of menopause due to its isoflavone (phytoestrogen) content. isoflavones are, a natural plant form of estrogen that has somehow been shown to replicate the function of estrogen in post-menopausal women. This is a safer alternative to taking estrogen, which has been known to have negative side effects., such as the reappearance of menstrual bleeding, and tissue changes in the breasts.

Soy has also been shown to help fight the development of prostate cancer, by inhibiting the growth of cancerous cells.
